Theatre
Vernon Hills High School Theatre Department
Where students explore the art of storytelling through a dynamic blend of classroom learning and stage performance. From acting and directing to technical theatre and design, our program offers rich curricular and extracurricular experiences that inspire confidence, creativity, and collaboration.
The Theatre Department produces five productions each school year which includes a musical, winter play, spring play, freshman/sophomore play, and student directed one acts festival. Along with acting onstage, our students also build sets, hang/focus lights, run sound, work in the costume shop, and stage manage all of the productions.

VHHS Theatre featured on NPR
In the Spring of 2020, VHHS was set to perform Clue in front of a live audience, but when the quarantine began, the rehearsals stopped. But the show must go on. With special permission from Broadway Publishing, VHHS' Backlight Theatre presented a radio play version of Clue. NPR featured Backlight Theatre Company's radio play in a story about high schools adapting to the lockdown.
